Spring 2017

Our topic for the Spring term is:

Lively London!

During the first half of the Spring term the children will be exploring the big question:

Why is London such a cool place to live?

We will begin by looking at the counties and cities of the United Kingdom, geographical regions and identify their human and physical characteristics. With a focus on London, we will compare cities & villages and find out why London is the capital city of England.  The children will research what London was like in the past and find out how and why it has grown and changed.  Through our art lessons, the children will look closely at famous landmarks in the city and create their own pencil and water colour pictures.

During the second half of the Spring term, the children will be exploring the big question:

Why is the River Thames so important to London?

The children will be looking at the River Thames, its history and how it has supported the growth of London.  In addition to this, we will be looking at rivers, their movements and how they can cause geographical changes. Through our DT lessons, the children will work together to investigate London's famous bridges and design and make their own bridge.  Our music is linked to the famous musical Mamma Mia and to end the topic we will be taking a 'trip' to the theatre to experience a West End show!
