Behaviour and Discipline
At Wimborne First School we have a whole school policy for discipline so that all adults in the school - teachers, support staff, lunch supervisors and helpers - use a common positive approach to children with simple rules, rewards and sanctions that everyone can understand.
The school has a 'Class Charter' which are regularly referred to in assembly and in class. Clear sanctions and boundaries exist so that all the children know the consequences of 'poor behaviour'. These include 'stop chairs', time out of class and being sent to the headteacher. Extremely poor behaviour will always be reported to the parents, and the headteacher and staff will aim to work in partnership with parents to help children improve.
Good behaviour is, however, expected and the school and staff take every opportunity to draw attention to good behaviour and conduct. A weekly assembly called the 'Celebration' assembly enables staff to award special certificates for pupils who have, in some way, worked hard or behaved in an exemplary manner. These certificates are sent home to be kept. A strong emphasis on praise, respect for the individual child, and positive reinforcement, is our method of promoting a happy and well behaved school. We have a range of certificates from 'WOW' awards, 'Magical Mathematicians' and 'Lovely Literacy'
The children earn 5 minutes a day towards our school rewards which is called FUN TIME FRIDAY. This happens once a half term when all the children across the school take part in a range of activities from yoga, construction, artwork, zuma to knitting and ICT. It recognises the children who are good all the time which is extremely important to the school.
At Wimborne First School, we strive for excellent behaviour.
Every child in the school has signed up to a year group charter which is created jointly by staff and children at the beginning of each year. This sets out the expectations that ALL members of the year group will follow to create a harmonious learning environment.
