Welcome to Wimborne First School
On behalf of the children, staff and governors I would like to welcome you to Wimborne First School. We are very proud of our school ethos which is commented on by all visitors to our school. We have approachable, professional and committed staff; dedicated and highly effective governors; supportive and caring parents and the loveliest children.
Wimborne First School is a very special place indeed! As Head Teacher, I am proud to walk through the corridors to the sounds of children talking about their learning,
having in depth group discussions, playing games with each other and hearing them laugh. There is awe and wonder in the atmosphere and a real buzz is felt in each classroom. The children love their learning and I want to make sure that they have the best possible start to their educational journey.
At Wimborne First School, we have high expectations and standards so children can reach their full potential. Children at our school are happy, enthusiastic learners, who engage fully in our creative curriculum. ‘Children have a chance to discover, explore and challenge their thinking skills’. (Ofsted 2015 stated).
We believe the first few years in school can be the most important in a child’s educational career as they can shape your child’s attitude to learning throughout our school and beyond. All children have different needs at different times in their school career and we are here throughout to support them. We treat every child as the unique individual that they are, valuing their ideas, personalities and supporting their development as they explore their emotions, formulate their opinions and learn to respect the opinions of others
We are a thriving and happy school with a lot to offer. Highly-trained teachers, who are dedicated to every child’s development, an excellent maths and phonics programme, high quality resources, fun, laughter and a real sense of belonging. Together, we are a school community in which everyone involved is part of the jigsaw. We value Personal, Social and Health education and this is embedded in everything we do, we believe that if we give the children the appropriate emotional building blocks then they will succeed in all they do and will strive for their dreams and goals in life.
If you would like to see more for yourself, please come and have a look around our school.

Dear Parents and Carers
I am delighted to be able to write my first letter as the Acting Headteacher of Wimborne First School. All the staff and children have made me feel very welcome and I feel privileged to be joining your school community. Being a parent myself, I am very much aware of the responsibility that the staff and I have in ensuring that the highest standard of teaching and learning is evident in all areas and that children are given a wide range of opportunities and experiences during their school life.
Since my appointment, I have had the opportunity to visit the school on several occasions and to meet with Mrs Hartley, children and staff. I would like to thank Mrs Hartley for her support in ensuring the transition to the Acting Headteacher was as smooth as possible and I’m sure that you’ll join with me in wishing all of the very best for her and her new family over the coming months.
I know how vital working in partnerships with parents really is, in order for children to find school a positive and rewarding experience. I strongly believe achievement and enjoyment go hand in hand to ensure each child’s excellent progress. I hope you will continue to support our high expectations in all areas, especially in behaviour and achievement.
I am sure I will be meeting many parents at tonight’s and tomorrow’s Parents Evening or on the school playground before school. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries, concerns or there is anything I can do to help and support you with your child’s learning and school life.
I would like to thank you personally for your continued commitment and support towards the staff and children of Wimborne First School.
Miss E Charlton
