Autumn 1

History: During this half term, we will begin our ‘Journey to Space’ as we explore our history unit all about the explorer: Neil Armstrong. The children will be learning how to sequence events from the past, discover the events of the moon landing and investigate the significant people from the past involved in this historic event.

Geography: During this half term, we will become ‘School Explorers’. We will be learning how to follow directions, draw maps and follow compass points to navigate around our school and the local area. Be sure to quiz us on our directional skills and the four compass points.

Science: Our ‘Everyday Materials’ learning will include investigating what changes can happen to solid objects when they are squashed, bent, twisted and stretched. We will conduct an experiment to discover and sort different materials, finding the best use for each one in our everyday lives.

Art: In Art this half term, the children will be learning about ‘famous artists’ and learning how to create sculptures out of clay in the style of a certain artist. They will learn to and explore different ways to create their clay models using different techniques.

Design Technology: In our Design Technology lessons this half term we will be learning how to create mechanisms, using leavers, wheels and winding mechanisms. The children will design and create their own working model with a mechanism.

Music: During our music lessons, we will investigate a wide range of musical styles. They will listen, sing, play by composing and perform a piece. The children will learn each skill through the songs ‘Music in my soul, Hey Friends and Hello’.

Computing: We will begin the year, learning about the importance of internet safety, understanding the important rules we must follow to stay safe online and understanding what we mean by personal information.

For further information about each subject, please see the knowledge organisers on the Curriculum pages

Home Learning
We link the home learning sent home with the work the children have been doing in school.  Home learning will be sent out on a Friday and we ask for it to be back in school by the Wednesday. If home learning is not in on a Wednesday, it will unfortunately not be marked. We encourage the children to complete their home learning every week, alongside reading their 'learn to read book' three times a week.
